 Wednesday 25th March Lock Down Begins Covid-19 has hit the UK and lock down has begun. We are lucky to live in a beautiful part of Suffolk and will still be able to walk daily as long as we stay vigilant and stick by social distancing rules. My first walk out since lock-down took me passed the old mill by the river where the swans have nested this year.  In all ten eggs were laid and six signets hatched.  Of those six only three have survived. I continued my walk across the fields to Shelly and back by the road to Lower Layham and then home. Signs of spring were everywhere and wild flowers were abundant.   Red Dead Nettles near the river Blackthorn Blossom in the bushes Butterburr by the River Brett On arriving home and sitting down with a cup of coffee I spotted these two male pheasants having a 'stand-off' at the bottom of the garden by the river.

 Sunday 8th March Felixstowe Ferry Houses at Felixstowe Ferry Felixstowe Ferry is a fishing village northeast of Felixstowe at the mouth of the River Deben. There are shacks, houseboats and a boat yard as well as a pub, church sailing club and fresh fish for sale. Bawdsey Manor can be seen across the river and a daily ferry service runs between Felixstowe Ferry and Bawdsey from May to September.  Wednesday 19th February Ipswich Waterfront The port of Ipswich has been in operation since Saxon times.  It is better known today as a place to visit for food, drink, live music and trips on the river Orwell. Dance East and the freehold Brewery Tap sit on the site of the once Tolly Cobbold brewery. The Old Custom House, opened in 1845 is now home to Ipswich Port Authority. A more modern building is the the University of Suffolk which looks out over the Haven and Neptune Marina. The university was established in 2007 as University Campus Suffolk and was awarded university status in 2016. There are many upmarket apartments leading up to the university. In contrast to theses apartments are some of the colourful student apartments. A view over the marina Although much work has been carried out at the waterfront there is still much to be done including cladding that was dislodged on the Mill Tower during storms in 2013. Monday 13th January Walton The morning was bright but chilly. A good day for a brisk walk along the seafront at Walton-on-the-Naze. There was a fresh breeze but the sun gave off a little warmth. Colours stood out on the beach and symmetrical patterns had been created by the steps that reached up to the beach huts. Sanderlings and Turnstones were keeping busy along the tideline shifting debris in search of seashore invertebrates. Sea defences forming patterns. As the tide came in the clouds began to build and the sea became more turbulent. We didn't hang around as we made our way back to the car.

  Action in 2020 This is the year we intend to get out and about. (That's my husband and me). We want to visit more places in Suffolk and travel to places further afield. There are so many wonderful places in the country to see and so much to photograph.

This year I wanted to showcase the images which I felt were the best I had taken in any one month. They won't necessarily be wildlife orientated and could include landscape or architecture. DECEMBER It's been a busy month but still time for a few photos. I was thrilled to get a shot of a Tawny owl at one of the local parks. I have heard them calling in the past but had never seen one in the wild. At the same park there were plenty of squirrels chasing around that were just calling out to be photographed. Just before Christmas we saw the River Brett burst its banks in several places. There have been floods here in the village before but not on this scale. Fortunately it was mostly fields and roads that were flooded and not peoples' homes. Another year now draws to an end. I have enjoyed sharing some of my images and look forward to a new project next year.

NOVEMBER No images for this month. My DSLR is still being repaired, feeling lost without it. I have been putting together packs of cards and mounting prints ready for the village Christmas sale next month. Hopefully there will be images for December.
