Cotswold Holiday

For a while I have wanted to pay a visit to the Cotswolds.  I have driven through on occasions and once spent the night in Tetbury.  This year, with my husband we spent a week in Stow-on-the-Wold. This was to be our base, central to travel to the many quaint villages in the area. Having spent several hours in the car on Saturday we decided to walk round some of Stow-on-the-Wold on Sunday.  We passed Porch House, the oldest inn in England.  It is said there used to be a Saxon inn on this site. Porch House From here we headed for Maugersbury and the Fosse Way.  There were some lovely views across to the Icomb Hills. Golden Wedding Anniversary

 We celebrated our fiftieth wedding anniversary last month and our family bought us a gift of a two night clamping experience at Happy Valley in Griston, Norfolk.  It was a total surprise and a wonderful idea.  We set off for Norfolk on Monday heading for a day exploring the gardens at Sandringham.   It was a beautiful day and the autumn colours were showing in some places.   We walked passed Sandringham House and the lake where the banks were covered with purple flowers. Having covered much of the gardens we went to visit Sandringham Church. There has been a church on this wooded spot west of Sandringham House since the 14th century, but the present building dates to the Tudor period, though it was restored twice in the 19th century, once by SS Teulon in 1855 and again by Arthur Blomfield in 1890. It is built of carr stone, a brownish sandstone conglomerate, and is considered perhaps the best example of a carrstone building in Britain. The interior is a luxurious example of late Vict
