My Voyage Award (Silver) Introduction
Having finished my Bronze Voyage award I wasn't sure if I would continue with the silver award. After a few months break, at the start of 2025 I decided I would attempt the next award. I knew I would need to take more time than I did with my bronze and go at a slower pace. Having decided what I could do for each section I made a start.
Service
I decided that my service would be split into two sections. Both would be with service to the community in mind. My first piece of work was with the Layham Local History Group where I photographed over 60 images of local artifacts that had been found in the local area by local detectorists. The items ranged from coins, brooches, horse buckles, bells to musket shot and cutlery. All the items were photographed, downloaded onto the computer, enlarged and tidied up. These were then printed and handed over to the history society who used them in an exhibition before saving them to the Layham history archives.
The second piece of service will be helping the Green Team to keep the village tidy. I will strim and cut the edges on the green areas around where I live and help mow the grass.
Myself
I have taken up a new hobby, Mandala Art. I will look into the history of the art then produce my own Mandala art work.
Teamwork
I will work with a group of like minded photographers to produce a book and put on an exhibition about our individual connections to Suffolk. We will have team meetings throughout the course of this work to give each other encouragement, ideas and later to discuss how the work should be presented. Each photographer is required to produce eight images for the final submission. The book will hopefully be published in October and the exhibition will start on Saturday 6th December.
Skills
I intend to improve my quilting skills. I first made a quilt with my granddaughter during Covid. I had no experience so a lot of what we did was guess work or watching videos. Having discussed this with the local needlework group who have already given me some tips and ideas I am ready to give it another
go. I will take advice from them as I reach the different stages during the quilt making.
Explore my World
As an individual I am concerned about the number of wild flowers that are disappearing from our country side. There are many flowers that can only now be found in a single place within the country. Wild flower meadows and grass verges continue to disappear. With this in mind I want to spend time recording the wild flowers I find in and around Suffolk.
